We all get so stuck in the mundane schedule of life that sometimes it’s good to break free, pack the family into the car, and get away for the day. Pick a place nearby and make a day trip of it, whether it’s a morning hike followed by an outdoor lunch or a getaway to a nearby city to visit an exhibit. It’s an easy way to explore a new place without having to time off work. At the end of it, you get to climb right back into your own beds for a good night sleep
Break the Routine
The day trip breaks the routine and gets the family together to spend a day of exploration. Day tripping creates a day of memories and a day of family bonding. We sometimes find ourselves waking up on a weekend and deciding that moment to head out for the day, or maybe we plan the week before. Whichever you choose, you’ll get a full day of uninterrupted family time.
Don’t Break the Bank
Day trips don’t have to cost a lot. You can pack a large picnic lunch and head out for a trail hike that takes up the morning and then relax outside over nice, large lunch. Another option is to find cities that have free museum admission. After the museum visit, you can stroll around and visit historic landmarks, while grabbing grub from street food trucks.
No Suitcases
Wear the clothes on your back and don’t worry about packing for days at a time. No packing or unpacking. The only thing you may need to bring is water for a hike or a packed lunch if you having a picnic. Some snacks for
younger kids, but those can fit into a day pack or pocketbook if you carry one.
Explore New locations, Locally
Day trips are an opportunity to get out and explore your surroundings. We are all so eager to get far out during vacations, that we forget there are wonderful destinations right in our own backyard. Take some time to learn about where you live and the history and nature it provides.
Conclusion
Day trips take the stress out of the preparing and packing for longer vacations while still giving you the benefit of family bonding time. Do you know what historic town is
an hour north of you where you live or what trails await an thirty minutes west?Ā Make the time to get out and explore as a family, you will discover and make memories within that day or at least break the routine.

I agree; day trip should count as a vacation too! These are good points!

Karie
I agree day vacations are much needed especially as kids get older and working trying to work around 4 different work schedules is so difficult but day trips are more likely to happen. Super important.
Five Family Adventurers
Karie- I feel like our lives are so busy, we need to take time to slow down. Work will get done, but time with loved ones will slip by.
Kristie
Here here! It doesn’t have to be a fancy getaway to expand your horizons and recharge your battery. In fact, I think it’s often more rejuvenating than a long trip!

Totally agree

When I was a kid we did a tour of Alabama. My parents thought it was important for us to know about the sights and history of our home state before we started venturing other places. Now as an adult I see it was really about saving money too (there are 9 of us kids, which can get expensive taking a “big vacation”). I am all for the “staycation”.
Estefania
I LOVE this concept so much and I think sometimes all you really need is one day to switch off.
DeAnna
Completely agree!!! We’ve been getting away to different cities only for the kids travel sports teams. I have a list of cities to visit now!!

I love mini Vacations! We live in a small town, and the closest major city to us is Spokane. at least what I consider major! So we pack the kids in and head into Spokane! It really is good to break free from routine.

Even a day hike with a picnic is a good mini vacation.

We try to do as many day trips as a family as we can. They’re great for something different. Although we still look like we’re going on an extended stay!

I totally agree. Actually being able to get off work and spend time with family and friends, is already a vacation for me. Day trips are actually fun and worth it. Most of the time it depends on the destination.

I agree! We need a to take a day off here and there to get out of our routine and spice things up. Life can be pretty boring and predictable if we don’t change things up.
Natalie
I completely agree ! Almost every weekend we take day trips because there is just always something to see here in CO. It’s a cheap mini vacay!

We plan to start taking day trips now that our daughter is a little older. Especially since we don’t have the financial stability to take a real vacation, that would require us staying for a couple of days in some exciting new location.

Day trips are a vacation!
Amanda
Looks like a great time!! I love to be outdoors, it always makes the day lengthen to me
Five Family Adventurers
I hate when it comes to an end

I couldn’t agree with you more! My husband and I recently moved to Colorado and we feel like there are so many cool towns to explore. We are taking a day trip to Estes Park this Memorial Day weekend, and I can’t wait!

Colorado is gorgeous! Have fun!

Taking a day off, doing a day trip to nearby location and spending time with your family is great way to break the monotony of life.
